Join us for a one-night-only screening of Spirit Flute: Healing the Heart, a powerful documentary narrated by Academy Award winner Wes Studi. The film explores the rich tradition of Native flute making and playing in Oklahoma, highlighting the cultural, spiritual, and musical significance of the instrument.
Produced and presented by Norman Cultural Connection, the event will feature a post-film Q&A with co-director/producer Marial Martyn and several individuals featured in the film: Timothy Tate Nevaquaya (Comanche), Tommy Wildcat (Cherokee), Lewis Johnson (Seminole), Nelson Harjo (Alabama-Quassarte), Wendell and Jack Pettigrew (Chickasaw), and DJ Battiest-Tomasi (Choctaw). The discussion will be moderated by Bobbie Chew Bigby (Cherokee), NYU Tulsa lecturer on Native Arts in Contemporary America.
Executive produced by Enoch Kelly Haney (Seminole), the film features special insight from Grammy-nominated artist R. Carlos Nakai and award-winning co-director Michael J. Kirk.
