📢 🗓🎙Introducing OUTER HAVEN POETRY NIGHT XVIII featuring Philip Cairns and Emily Trace plus open mic poets 😊
Join us on Thursday, June 26th in Toronto's Imperial Pub (near the Eaton Centre) for an evening of featured and open mic readings 👏 📝
A writer and artist with a background as a performing arts journalist, Emily Trace has spent her first year as a performing poet experimenting with rhyming epics, odes, invocations and verbal burlesque, playing with metre as a tool of suspense and misdirection. Her work blends myth with confession, exploring the sensuality of science, trance states and the erotics of nature (pulsars in particular). She’s been commended for creating commanding experiences that are nevertheless quite intimate, and now experiments with ‘enthralogy’ as a guiding performance principle: the indulgent and exultant state of being held in the thrall of a story. She is currently writing/researching two manuscripts and completing a certificate in somatic therapies over the summer.
Philip Cairns is an actor/writer/visual artist from Toronto. His writing explores queer sexuality, jewellery, other galaxies, Classic movie stars and bedbugs. He has performed all over Southern Ontario and in New York City. Philip played a lead role in the film, “Fluff”. His book of poetry and stories, “Hollywood Poems and Other Diversions”, was published in 2021 by Purple Poet Press. Philip has been acting in small theatre productions since he was 13. He has exhibited his colourful paintings and drawings in solo and group shows in Toronto and Edmonton. His first film, as writer director, Diamonds on Plastic, has been playing at film festivals across the globe.
