Info: CAT PEOPLE (1982), directed by Paul Schrader and starring Nastassja Kinski, Malcolm McDowell, John Heard, and Annette O'Toole. Irena Gallier (Kinski) travels to New Orleans from Canada to reconnect with her brother Paul (McDowell). Irena was raised in foster care after they were orphaned, while Paul spent his childhood in psych wards. Paul goes missing and a prostitute's foot is mauled by a panther which is then captured by zoologists. Irena reveals to one of them that she's a virgin (because, of course), eventually discovers her and Paul's shared werecat ancestry, which apparently is more like incest-ry, and further mayhem ensues. CAT PEOPLE has a 65% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
Info: SLEEPWALKERS (1992), was written by Stephen King and directed by Mick Garris and stars Brian Krause, Mädchen Amick and Alice Krige. Charles Brady (Krause) and his mother/lover (Krige) are the last two survivors of a vampiric shapeshifting species that feed on the life force of human female virgins. Though they normally maintain a human form, they can transform into human-sized bipedal werecats, their natural form, at will. They have powers of both telekinesis and illusion, but they have a weakness - domestic cats. Charles meets Tanya (Amick) at school and attempts to drain her life force while on a date (typical). A deputy sheriff is killed and cat/werecat-based mayhem ensues. SLEEPWALKERS has a 29% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
