Contemplative Photography

- Contemplative Photography Class - All photographers have had the experience of the photo they've taken looking differently than the photo they "thought" they were taking! The camera just sees what is there, but we often put our own perspective on what we see and so are disappointed with the outcome. This class, taught by Ken and Rebecca Otte, will focus on helping you notice what is already there - not imagining it. This is a mindfulness practice of paying attention to light and shadow, color and texture, etc. Rebecca, a long time meditator and Zen teacher, will talk about the contemplative aspects. Ken, who is known in Topeka for his wonderful photography, will discuss some of the technical aspects of photography.
- We will meet Friday evening at 7 pm - 8:30 pm for lecture, questions, sharing. Then Saturday morning at 8am we will meet at Ted Ensley Gardens at Shawnee Lake and take photographs with this new way of seeing! Bring your cameras to both sessions. We will decide together about a follow up sessions to show our photographs and discuss our experiences.
Fee for the class is $25. Registration will open on June 1 through the Prairyerth Zen Center website - prairyerthzen.org.
