The Woolsey Fire in 2018 remains the largest wildfire in history of the Santa Monica Mountains by acreage. The National Park Service, the Santa Monica Mountains Fund, partner agencies, and NPS volunteers collaborate to study and investigate the fire's impacts and long-lasting effects on the ecosystem and its inhabitants. With the use of wildlife camera traps, biologists gain a better sense of what lives, breathes, and zooms through the Santa Monica Mountains and nearby mountain ranges.
Visit the Newbury Park Library during operating hours in July to discover stunning wildlife research images captured by the National Park Service and its partners as they monitor the Santa Monica Mountains' wildlife recovery after the Woolsey Fire. This special display highlights a powerful collaboration between the NPS, Santa Monica Mountains Fund, and dedicated volunteers, showcasing the region’s remarkable ecological resilience.
Free RSVP recommended.
A project presentation will be hosted Monday, June 30 from 6-7 p.m. to discuss the wildlife research. For more information and to RSVP for the public program, click here.
