DAV Meeting / Flag Retirement Ceremony

On Thursday June 19th in conjunction with our Monthly Meeting the DAV will hold a Flag Retirement Ceremony at the Herb Gould Veterans Park located at Tennessee Ridge city hall. The flag retirement ceremony will start at 5:00 PM followed by cookout and a swearing in ceremony of the newly elected DAV officers 25-26 officers. This event is open to all veterans and their family members. The DAR will do a special present prior to the official flag retirement ceremony.

An American flag retirement ceremony respectfully disposes of a worn, torn, faded, or soiled flag through burning or burial. The ceremony involves a fire, a Color Guard, and a Master of Ceremonies (MC). The flag is unfolded and presented, then carefully lowered into the fire. The Color Guard stirs the ashes to ensure the flag is unrecognizable. Please note due dunes only one flag will be ceremonial retired but others may retired personal flag. All other weather flags will be disposed of via cremation.
