Meet Brian Melvin
A San Francisco–born percussion powerhouse now based in Tallinn, Estonia, Brian Melvin is steeped in jazz and rock history. He’s recorded five albums with legendary bassist Jaco Pastorius — including the seminal Standards Zone — and led the acclaimed fusion group Nightfood, best known for the album Nightfood featuring Bob Weir of the Grateful Dead.
Brian has also played and recorded with musical icons such as Joe Henderson, Mike Stern, John Scofield, Michael Brecker, and Joe Lovano. He co-leads Beatlejazz with three-time Grammy-winner David Kikoski, earning international Top-10 status across four acclaimed releases. His jazz-rock project FOG features Jeff Chimenti of Dead & Company on keyboards.
As a lifelong improviser with deep roots in the San Francisco scene, Brian’s presence brings a uniquely authentic spirit to the Grateful Dead and Jerry Garcia Band repertoire.
