WMNF is launching a news and public affairs speaker series called WaveMakers Live featuring conversations with people making a difference in the Tampa Bay area and Florida.
The series kicks off Thursday, Aug. 21 with Nadine Smith, talking about Frontline Florida: Blueprint for Resistance. Nadine is the executive director of Equality Florida and host of the WMNF news and public affairs show Wide Awake America, in conversation with Tom Scherberger, former host of the WMNF WaveMakers show and a contributing editor of The Florida Trident.
“We’re excited to expand WMNF’s mission in the community with a series of in-person events that will give our listeners another way to directly engage with important thought leaders,” said WMNF news director Seán Kinane.
The first conversation will be on Thursday, Aug. 21 at 7:30 p.m. at The Commodore in Ybor City, 811 E. 7th Ave. Tickets are $10 in advance, $15 at the door. Space is limited. Beer and wine will be available for purchase.
Smith is a founder of Equality Florida the state’s largest organization dedicated to ending discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity. In 2022, she was named to the Time100, TIME’s annual list of the 100 most influential people in the world. She is chair of the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights Florida Advisory Committee.
