AfroEcology: Natural Dye Workshop
Come join us for a Full-Day hands-on experience at our Natural Dye Workshop! Learn about the traditional AfroEcology practices of using natural dyes from plants to create beautiful textiles. This event will take place in person at Promise Land Urban Farm, located at 510 E Orange Ave.Tallahasee, FL. Get ready to immerse yourself in the world of natural colors and sustainable practices. Don't miss out on this unique opportunity to explore the intersection of culture, ecology, and art!

We will work with hibiscus, beetroot, butterfly pea and elderberry to produce beautiful reds on fabric and paper. In our approach to food as medicine, we will explore the health benefits of these foods, ways to ethically source them, their cultural significance and how to transform them into art.
Objectives:
Participants will leave with their completed artwork and a care package featuring herbal powders and a booklet on natural color. While materials will be provided, attendees are welcome to bring their own fabric. A complimentary meal , light snacks and beverages will also be served.
Info: Alexis Akua is a visual artist, writer, researcher and herbalist with Caribbean and West African roots.
She loves to create holistic experiences rooted in wellness and creativity. Born into a lineage of
farmers in the rural south, she finds magic in sharing about the nature-based technologies of visual storytelling and land cultivation.
Info: Charles Greenlea is a multigenerational resident of Atlanta, Georgia, with deep roots in agriculture, education, and community organizing. He is the founder and Director of Greenspace Management at Eco-PARADIGM, LLC. Brother Charles has extensive experience in food systems, managing community gardens and urban farms, teaching agriculture and environmental science, and facilitating green workforce development programs. He is dedicated to helping individuals and communities achieve sustainability through environmental stewardship and land management.
Info: Ariel Doty is an Atlanta, Georgia native driven by a passion for education and community engagement. In her role as Programs Specialist at Black Sustainability, Inc., Ariel looks forward to significantly expanding the organization's educational outreach. She aims to introduce innovative learning programs, materials, and skills tailored for learners of all ages.
