PLANT THE FUTURE – AND STAY FOR A SAUSAGE SIZZLE!
Come along to the Whangaparāoa College Wetland Planting Day on the first Sunday of August.
Did you know that Whangaparāoa College have a wetland on their school grounds? What’s good about a wetland? It filters stormwater run-off before it reaches the sea. It acts as a reservoir for stormwater to reduce flooding risk to nearby properties. It provides habitat for threatened native species of birds, lizards and insects. By planting new native plants, together with students, teachers, and the local community, we’re working to restore and enhance a vital wetland right in the heart of the school grounds!
🌿 What to bring:
Gardening gloves
Spade (if you have one)
Water and snacks
Warm layers and sturdy footwear or gumboots (the site can be muddy!)
Everyone is welcome — bring friends, whānau, and your planting energy.
And stick around afterwards for a BBQ to celebrate your mahi!
