A 25-40km loop of Motutapu Island plus various loop options with a summit of Rangitoto Island.
The goal is nothing over 5hr30min so we don’t miss the return ferry.
We start with Motutapu Island as a group, refuel back at the start (25km) and can then split up to complete our respective goal distance on Rangitoto Island, or you may wish to return on the 2:20 PM ferry
9:00 AM - Meet at the Downtown Ferry Terminal
9:15 AM - Ferry departure (to avoid disappointment and save, buy online - $58 return) (this ferry does go via Devonport)
10 AM - 3:30 PM - We run
4:00 PM - Return Ferry
As we encourage you to reduce your carbon footprint, please consider carpooling or using public transport to get to the Auckland/Devonport Ferry Terminal.
The terrain varies greatly between the two islands. Motutapu is undulating and sections of the trails can be very slow, but return on a gravel farm road. Rangitoto is a mixture of open road and technical tracks.
It will be hot and humid on the island so everyone MUST carry sufficient hydration and food, basic first aid kit and sun protection.
It is highly recommended to bring additional water, and change of clothing, which we stash in our usual hiding spot at the start.
