Fundamental Principles of Art - Series

Ready to step into the art world or looking to practice your skills?

This 6-week series is a great way to learn some of the fundamental principles to get you going in the world of creativity.

Come for one or all classes.

Each session will start with 30-45 minutes of lecture/discussion with some art history woven in. We'll then spend 2-3 hours of instructed practical application using art masters as inspiration to create our own artwork.

This is a beginner-level series of classes for anyone 12 and older. No previous experience required.

All supplies and equipment included. Just bring your enthusiasm and smiles.

Sept. 5 - Color theory, selection, and application

Learn about how color effects your psyche and emotions, how to choose colors that work well together, then paint an abstract piece of art using what you've learned.

Sept. 12 - Line, Shape, Form

Find out how lines, shapes, and forms combine to create emersive art. We'll then draw a simple still life piece to show off your new skills.

Sept. 19 - Perspective Drawing

Perspective gives visual depth on a flat surface. Trick the brain into seeing something interesting.

Sept. 26 - Composition

Learn various ways to draw viewers eyes around your artwork. Setting up the placement of subjects of your painting brings your audience into your art. Good composition can take a piece from ok to great.

Oct. 3 - Lighting

Ever wonder what makes a Rembrant painting so moving? We'll learn how masters have mastered the illusion of light to evoke emotion or tell a compelling story. Then we'll paint along to a piece that showcases the learnings.

Oct. 10 - Putting it all together

In this final class, we'll take all that we learned to create a still life in the medium of your choice.

While snacks and (n/a) drinks will be available, feel free to bring your own food and drinks.
