🌟 The Greensand Way 2025 🌟
Overview:
The Greensand Way is a scenic 108-mile (174 km) long-distance trail stretching from Haslemere in Surrey to Hamstreet in Kent, following the Greensand Ridge. We will enjoy panoramic views, explore picturesque villages, and pass through historic sites such as Knole Park and Leeds Castle.
The route includes several areas of outstanding natural beauty and seven trig points to bag along the way. With varied landscapes, from ancient woodlands, rolling hills, open fields, villages and riversides , it’s a great mini challenge to try and complete over the course of 2025.
You will experience the beauty of Surrey and Kent across different seasons as we complete the trail with 1 date per month.
The Greensand Way is named after the Greensand Ridge, a long, narrow band of sandstone that runs through parts of Surrey and Kent. This sandstone is rich in the mineral glauconite, which gives it a distinctive greenish hue, hence the name “Greensand.”
There is an alternative option to complete the trail and receive a medal. This will give you two free walks.
Route Details:
Stage 10:
Starting in Sutton Valence, the Greensand Way leads us eastward, passing the castle ruins then descending from the hilltop village with panoramic views across the Weald of Kent.
The path takes us through Ulcombe, a quiet village with the lovely All Saints Church, which dates back to the 12th century. Beyond Ulcombe, the landscape opens up again, and we’ll walk through fields with distant views of the Kent Downs on the horizon.
As the trail continues, we’ll pass through small pockets of woodland.
Approaching Egerton, the final stretch of our 11 km walk, you’ll notice the landscape becomes more undulating, with gentle hills and views over the surrounding countryside. Egerton is a traditional Kentish village with timber-framed houses and a historic church, St. James the Great, which dates back to Norman times. We will end stage 10 of The Greensand Way here.
