This is a free/donation-based program. All ages are welcome, though youth must be accompanied by an adult. Registration is required and limited to 12 participants.
Join Jessica for a creative and relaxing nature journaling session at Cool Spring Preserve! Whether you’re a seasoned journal keeper or just curious to try it out, this is a great opportunity to explore different ways of connecting with nature through art and observation.
Not an artist? That’s perfectly fine! You don’t need to know how to draw to enjoy nature journaling. Jessica will guide you through a variety of approaches—from simple sketches and writing prompts to collage and color exploration. Bring along whatever materials inspire you: a journal, watercolor paints, brushes, markers, pens, colored pencils, or even old nature and gardening magazines to cut up and use creatively.
The session will take place at Cool Spring Preserve, a 74-acre landscape of forest, meadow, and marsh in southern Jefferson County. Bullskin Run, a stream with historical significance, borders the preserve. Cool Spring is also a designated birding hotspot—an ideal setting to pause, observe, and create. In 2024, we expanded the preserve by 11 additional acres to help protect the sensitive Bullskin Run and Marl Marsh, in partnership with the West Virginia Land Trust.
