Lately it has been feeling more important than ever to keep building our local community and seeking out the beauty in the world. At a time when the world feels pulled apart, we want to create a space to pull people together, and with that in mind, we are excited to introduce our new Monthly Featured Artist Speaker Series.
Join us Tuesday, June 17 at 7 p.m. at the Northwood Gallery for a reading from Awakened, Julia Skonicki’s first published book, followed by a Q&A with the author.
Originally from Chicago, Julia moved to Vermont 25 years ago and now lives in Hyde Park. Deeply rooted in the nonprofit, educational, and arts communities, she spends her days supporting children and families through her work, while finding time to enjoy all that Vermont has to offer.
A poet and photographer since childhood, Julia draws endless inspiration from the quiet beauty of the natural world. Over time, the camera and pen became tools of peace and clarity—but her truest teachers have always been the trees. She believes the Earth holds deep wisdom—if we only pause to listen.
Through her collaboration with words and nature, Julia’s creative journey is grounded in love, light, and connection.
LOVE moves her heart to embrace emotion.
LIGHT ignites her soul to spread kindness.
And through it all, she strives to CONNECT—
with the Earth, with others, and with her own heart.
