About the event

GYBO walk from Gribdale Gate to Clay Bank (Cleveland Way section 7)
🥾 12 miles 🥾 Moderate 🥾 Leader: Giulia 🥾

This beautiful section of the Cleveland Way starts with a short climb from Gribdale Gate car park to Captain Cook's Monument. After enjoying the great views over Roseberry Topping, we continue through Mill Bank Wood down to Kildale. Another short, steady climb will take us up to Battersby Moor. The rest of the walk is on well surfaced tarmac roads and good tracks and hugs the edge of the moors all the way to Clay Bank, offering amazing views (weather permitting!) over the surrounding countryside and the heather in bloom. Just before starting our descent towards Clay Bank we will pass Round Hill, the highest point of the North York Moors (454m), where we can pause one last time to admire the view and see how far we've come.

🪧 Meet at the lay-by just south of the Clay Bank car park on B1257 (TS9 7JA, what3words: trombone.consumed.closed). If you stop in the Forestry England car park instead, please do not pay for your parking until we have organised lifts to the start of the walk

🅿️ We will then car-share to the start of the walk at Gribdale Gate (Dikes Lane, Middlesbrough TS9 6HN, what3words:ignore.prepare.bribing). Please be prepared to give others a lift either to the start of the walk or to take them back to their cars afterwards

🚻 There are no public toilets at Clay Bank or Gribdale Gate. The only public toilets on the route are at Kildale train station, approximately 2.5 miles in

🥪 You will need to bring a packed lunch, and plenty of water and snacks. There will be no opportunities to buy food once we set off

🍺 After the walk, we can visit one of the many pubs, cafés or shops in Great Ayton for a drink or a treat 🍦🍰

⚠️ Although the route is mostly on well surfaced roads and paths, the majority of the day will be spent up on the moors where there is little to no shelter from the wind, rain or sun and weather conditions can change rapidly, even in summer. Please bring clothing suitable for a range of conditions and good quality boots or walking shoes

🐶 Dogs are welcome, but must be on leads as we will pass through fields with livestock. If you are bringing a dog, you must arrange beforehand with someone who is happy to take your dog in their car to the start of the walk

Get Your Boots On is a friendly and sociable group for those in their 20s and 30s, and is part of the Ramblers
