🥾 11¾ miles 🥾 Moderate 🥾 Leader: Ellen 🥾
This walk takes us along the penultimate section of the Cleveland Way, from Osmotherley to Sutton Bank. We leave the centre of Osmotherley past fields, through a small wood, across a stream and up on to the moors. There is a steady ascent to reach the top of the moor and the footing can be a little slippery through the wood, so please take care. Once on the moor, we follow the path all the way along to Sutton Bank with great views as we go, finishing at the "finest view in England" (according to William Wordsworth).
🪧 Meet at Sutton Bank visitor centre car park for 9.45am, so that we can arrange car sharing to the start of the walk in Osmotherley, where we will leave some cars and take everyone in as few cars as possible to Osmotherley. Please be prepared to give other people a lift either at the start or the end of the walk.
🅿️ Pay and display car park at Sutton Bank visitor centre, costs £6 – but before you buy your parking ticket, please check in with the walk leader as some people will be taking their cars to Osmotherley.
There is very little limited parking in the centre of Osmotherley, so we need to take as few cars as possible to the start. If you are driving to Osmotherley, please be prepared to park on the edge of the village and make a short walk to the start point. The walk starts next to the Osmotherley War Memorial near the Moon House Bed and Breakfast at 10.30am.
🚻 There are public toilets at Sutton Bank visitor centre. The information board says they open at 10am, however they were already open at 9.30am on the recce. There are also public toilets next to the start in Osmotherley, however these were locked on the recce, so best not to rely on these ones!
🍰 At the end of the walk there is a café serving food, cake, drinks and ice cream at Sutton Bank Visitor centre.
🐶 Dogs are welcome but will need to be kept on a lead for most of the walk, as there are ground-nesting birds around. If you are bringing a dog, you must arrange with someone else to give you a lift to the start of the walk beforehand.
🥪 You will need to bring a packed lunch.
