UQMHC Presents: Narrative Medicine Writing Workshop

Narrative medicine is an approach to the physician-patient relationship that focuses on using skills of empathy, reflection, and humanism. It aims to strengthen the therapeutic alliance by connecting doctors to their patients’ lived experiences. Narrative medicine helps medical students develop empathy, reflective thinking, and communication skills by encouraging deep engagement with patients’ lived experiences.

Join us in this 3-hour workshop where we will read and discuss examples of narrative medicine, then try our hand at narrative writing ourselves! Dr. Sarah Klenbort, a Teaching Associate in the UQ School of Communication at the Arts, will join us as a facilitator. She specializes in creative nonfiction and short stories, and has a wealth of experience in facilitating narrative medicine workshops.

Please note that this workshop is designed for medical students to integrate themes in medical school, and may not be suitable for students without clinical experience. No pre-work is required!

Morning tea and snacks are included in ticket price. $10 for Members, $15 for Non-Members.
