Come n Try fencing, laser run and obstacle all in one day!
Epee Fencing your goal is to hit your opponent before they hit you. State coach David McFadyen, will teach you basic footwork, attacks and parries, and you can try out your skills in practice bouts!
Laser run is where you run, shoot to hit 5 bullseyes as fast as possible, and run again. Amos Vagg show you how to shoot laser pistols and how to combine that with running before doing a time trial laser run.
Obstacle course similar to a modern pentathlon competition, complete the sprint course as quickly as possible, runs can be used to qualify for Obstacle Australia national events.
Event format:
9:00 Fencing Training Session
Introduction to fencing, what it is and how it works in modern pentathlon
Fencing training in basic footwork, parries and attacks used in fencing
Fun bouts to apply skills learnt in the session
11:00 Obstacle Course - Come and try & Obstacle Australia Qualifier
Obstacle Briefing - Outline of course including rules and safety. Will be loosely in accordance with UIPM Obstacle rules, if you fail on an obstacle, you get a second attempt, 2nd fail on same obstacle is elimination, but for this event will continue on course with substantial penalties from score.
Obstacle Warmup - Athletes will have 15minutes to familiarise themselves with the obstacles before their runs under the guidance of coach Emma Teede
Obstacle runs - The course is 10 obstacles including monkey bars, steps, up and over and more to test balance, coordination and strength. Check out course outline

11:30 Laser-Run Come & Try and Time Trial
Laser Shooting Training - Athletes will have around 45minutes to become familiar with how to use laser pistols effectively for Modern Pentathlon under the guidance of coach Amos.
Laser-Run Briefing - Overview of course, important rules, lane and heat assignments and course walk.
Laser-Run Races - Run a lap, shoot until you either hit the centre 5 times or 50seconds elapse, repeat as per below table. Races will be a pack start.
Distances and ages: Ages are calculated as current year – birth year, I.e 2025-2014=11, which is Under 13 (not Under 11). Athletes can compete in any distance, but are only eligible for ribbons at or above their age, I.e an under 13 athlete is eligible to win under 15 category if they choose to enter it, but not eligible for awards if they enter as under 11
Obstacle course will be adapted slightly between younger and older age groups.
Under 9/Under 11: Run 2x300m, Shoot 2x5 hits (2 hands) from 5m
Under 13: Run 3x300m, Shoot 3x5 hits from 5m
Under 15: Run 3x600m, Shoot 3x5 hits from 5m
Under 17: Run 4x600m, Shoot 4x5 hits from 10m
Under 19/Junior/Senior: Run 5x600m, Shoot 4x5 hits from 10m
Masters 30-59: Run 3x600m, Shoot 3x5 hits from 10m
Masters 60+: Run 2x600m, Shoot 2x5 hits from 5m

All athletes must be a member of a Modern Pentathlon Organisation - this can be a trialist membership for NSW Modern Pentathlon which is just $5 and allows you to compete in most Modern Pentathlon events in Australia for 3months. Obstacle Australia event includes memberships.
