The Threads That Bind: St. Louis Women’s Quilting, Culture, and Hope

Join us for a special screening of The Threads That Bind, an ethnographic documentary that celebrates the stories of St. Louis women quilters from diverse racial, ethnic, and cultural backgrounds. Created by artist and activist Dr. Paulette Sankofa, the film highlights quilting as both a personal and collective art form—linking communities, generations, and traditions. Dr. Sankofa builds upon themes from her book St. Louis Black Women’s Quilting and Cuisine: Stories of Love and Hope. Her documentary invites audiences to witness quilting as a deeply meaningful artistic and social act.

After the screening, participate in a Q&A with the filmmaker and enjoy an exhibition of quilts featured in the documentary on display in Schlafly Library’s gallery.
