Project Sneakernet is a grassroots, hyperlocal, crowdsourced, community-controlled information-sharing system being built by Dutchtown residents to help neighbors find local resources, events, and opportunities more easily.
The project includes four main parts: a neighborhood intranet with community information, upcycled information kiosks in community spaces, printed materials for distribution, and resident-controlled messaging groups. Our goal is to connect the knowledge and resources that already exist in our community while making sure everyone can access information in ways that work for them.
Join us for a working meeting to plan how this system will actually work in our neighborhood. At this meeting, we'll:
- Review the current plans for the intranet, information kiosks, printed materials, and messaging groups
- Identify what information would be most useful to include and where it should be available
- Figure out how to make sure everything is accessible to people with different technology access and preferences
- Create volunteer teams based on people's interests and availability
We're looking for input on practical questions: What resources do neighbors need information about? Where do people already go to look for community information? What would make these systems most useful for families, older adults, and people with different accessibility needs?
This project belongs to everyone in our neighborhood. Come help us figure out how to make it work.
Snacks will be provided and childcare is available upon request!
