About the project
Colour photograph of a model Iguanodon as if it were alive. It is painted in green stripes, facing to the left and is standing on its hind limbs. Its tail is dragging along the ground.
The Dinosaur on your Doorstep project is for people, particularly families with children, living in Hollington. The project has been inspired by the museum’s collections and its recent work on community participation. It celebrates the finding and naming of a dinosaur from Hollington called Iguanodon hollingtoniensis. A local artist was commissioned to work with local people and families to create a permanent artwork that highlights Hastings’ dinosaur heritage.
The project began in June 2022 with mosaic workshops to create the artwork, with additional launch and reveal events taking place as well. The project was initially supported by Surviving the Streets, social housing provider Optivo and local charity Fresh Visions with funding provided by the Royal Society.
