The NL Eats Innovation Challenge is a one-of-a-kind hackathon focused on solving real food-related challenges in Newfoundland and Labrador. From food security and waste reduction to agricultural technology and community systems. This is your opportunity to use innovation to create a lasting impact in your community!
Unlike traditional hackathons, this event is flexible and inclusive. It runs over four days, with most of the work happening asynchronously online. Whether you’re a developer, designer, researcher, policy thinker, or passionate community member, your contribution is welcome! We’re looking for both technical and non-technical solutions, and encourage participants from all backgrounds to get involved.
This is a problem-solving sprint where teams collaborate to develop ideas and prototypes that tackle food insecurity and inefficiencies in food systems. From improving supply chains to enabling better access to local produce, the possibilities are wide open!
Participants will receive feedback and support from industry mentors asynchronously and on Saturday, June 14, everyone is invited to attend the final presentation showcase, where teams will pitch their ideas to a panel of judges. It’s a chance to see innovation in action, network with others, and celebrate bold thinking. Lunch will be provided on Saturday, kicking the day off right!
Prizes will be awarded in several categories that recognize both technical excellence and business viability, including “Most Innovative Solution” and “Best Presentation.” Winning teams will receive monetary prizes to help take their projects to the next level.
By joining this challenge, you’re not just participating in an event, you’re helping build a more resilient, equitable, and tech-enabled food system for NL and beyond!
