John Landis’s The Blues Brothers is a raucous, genre-defying blend of high-octane car chases, deadpan absurdity, and electrifying musical performances. Anchored by the deadpan chemistry of Dan Aykroyd and John Belushi as Jake and Elwood Blues—ex-con musicians on a divine mission to save their childhood orphanage—the film channels the anarchic spirit of slapstick comedy through a reverent love of American blues, soul, and R&B. After the release of Jake Blues from prison, he and brother Elwood take their blues band back on the road in an attempt to raise money for the orphanage where they were raised.
