umjetničkog kolektiva TARWUK (Bruno Pogačnik Tremow i Ivana Vukšić)

📅 Otvorenje će se održati u utorak, 15. srpnja 2025. u 🕢 19:30 sati u Salonu Galić, Marmontova 3, Split.

◾Izložba je također dio programa 71. Splitskog ljeta.

Izložbu organizira HULU Split, u partnerstvu s HNK Split – 71. Splitsko ljeto te KC Osijekom, uz podršku: Galerije umjetnina – Split, WHITE CUBE LIMITED (London) i WHITE CUBE PARIS SARL (Pariz).

◾Kustosica izložbe: Valentina Radoš

Ovom prilikom, umjetnički duo TARWUK predstavit će nove, prostorno specifične radove nastale tijekom desetodnevne rezidencije u Splitu. Izložba promišlja ulogu kostima, scenografije i identiteta unutar suvremene umjetničke prakse, kroz bogatu kombinaciju instalacija, slika, skulptura i video radova.

𝗣𝗥𝗘𝗗𝗚𝗢𝗩𝗢𝗥

Šira simbolika fluidnosti naših mnogih identiteta i točke u kojima se povezuju s drugima čini konceptualnu srž ovog projekta, dok performativni principi kazališta čine njegovu vanjsku manifestaciju. Postavke počinju sasvim slučajnim susretom dvoje izvođača – Simone i Nada – koji nam u jednom kratkom ljetnom poslijepodnevu predstavljaju cijelu lepezu ljudskog prepoznavanja, poput komornog komada opuštenih i nepredvidivih narativnih niti.

On this occasion, the artistic duo TARWUK will present new, site-specific works created during their ten-day residency in Split. The exhibition reflects on the role of costume, scenography, and identity within contemporary artistic practice, through a rich combination of installations, paintings, sculptures, and video works.

𝗙𝗢𝗥𝗘𝗪𝗢𝗥𝗗

Entering the TARWUK exhibition is equivalent to entering another dimension, one that is both seductively unexplored and deeply relatable. It is not an exhibition in the everyday sense of the word, but rather a spatial state of consciousness into which our physical being joins. As the title of the exhibition itself emphasizes; this is more than a collection of works. Instead, we enter into a coexistence with Ivana and Bruno, and they with us, because the question of the eternally trans-formative self is the basis of the fabric of what TARWUK is. This duo, which shares an artistic and life creation without distinguishing the border between the two, expands the circle with activities based on the principle of radical universality and emotional recognition between different people, not bound by any descriptive and other categorizations. Since only the core of TARWUK consists of this one entity with four arms and two hearts, the external form of their collective changes from exhibition to exhibition, with the addition of collaborators from previous projects, as well as family members and friends. TARWUK’s understanding of the exhibition is one of artistic gesture and a space of life, so therefore they do not recognize any limitation in any sense.
The setting of each exhibition, including this one, is in a state of perpetual flux and is to be read and to function as a comprehensive installation consisting of drawings, paintings, sculptures, found objects, performance and film –one that is brought to life each time in a specific and new space. The broader symbolism of the fluidity of our many identities and the points at which they connect with others form the conceptual core of this project, while the performative principles of the staged theatre form its external manifestation. The setting begins with a completely accidental encounter between two performers – Simone and Nada – who, in one short and hot summer afternoon, present us with a whole range of human recognition; something like a chamber piece consisting of a number of relaxed and unpredictable narrative threads. TARWUK describes it as a scene of everyday togetherness, which as an alternative reality (or perhaps the only true one?) hides a dense point of psychic tensions: a togetherness in which microaggressions, tenderness, expectations and inherited traumas emerge through banal conversations and ritual repetition. The focus, as before, is placed on the question of human communication and togetherness, and all the inherent states of psychic, emotional and social flexibility; but without an offered solution or conclusion for the viewer.
The metamorphosis of each individual within TARWUK's circle, recreated by each exhibition staging, navigates through the history of all other and previous iterations of the collective. They only partially convey what they believe to be true through language, but just like the human identity, words are fragile constitutions and subject to all kinds of manipulation. Therefore, in the world of TARWUK, language does not function as a mere transmitter of meaning, but instead as the matter of their apparent opacity and alchemy, and like a sown seed (spoken and written) grows depending on the fertility of each individual soil. The theatrical design of the exhibition display, which uses costumes and scenography, also serves as a catalyst for transformation and the construction of new togetherness and accompanying identities. By placing the process itself above the final product, collaboration above the individual gesture, they keep our and their focus precisely on the border that separates the self from the other. The aforementioned framework motif of a chance encounter which becomes a trigger for a deep recognition of the self, and then the other, functions as a “libretto” for a much broader trans-disciplinary and collaborative principle. Drawing heavily on a long-standing practice opened to association and cohabitation, TARWUK questions the notion of home and family, not as stable categories but as constructed ones and therefore subject to constant reinterpretation. TARWUK stands for radical closeness in a time of increasing stratification. What does it mean to be human; what are the components of humanity and what connects us all, from our archetypal ancestors to future generations?
