History of the Fens – Francis Pryor – 4:00 pm Sunday, March 8th

We are delighted to welcome local archaeologist and historian Francis Pryor to talk to us about the history of the Fens. Francis (a key expert on Channel 4’s Time Team for over 20 years) will take us back to the Bronze Age to discuss the settlements and artifacts he has unearthed.
Interestingly, Francis took a Chipmunk flight from Fenland Airfield to view sites of interest in our area. He will discuss some of the unusual landmarks that can be seen from the air—a unique perspective, much like seal spotting from an aircraft!
Francis is the archaeologist who discovered Flag Fen in Whittlesey, a significant site where a Bronze Age wooden causeway and village were uncovered. Most local primary school children visit Flag Fen as a core part of their history curriculum.
