Guided tour of Holton Pits

We are delighted to have been invited by Holton Pits CIC for a guided tour of their site.

Holton Pits is an open space of varied habitats including open acid grassland, wooded paths, sandy cliffs and a lake, which for decades has been enjoyed by locals and visitors alike as a space to walk, play and connect with nature. When the landowner put the site up for sale in 2022, the community mobilised to ensure pits remained as a community asset. This resulted in the formation of Holton Pits CIC, the raising of the necessary funds and the successful purchase of the land in November 2023.

You are very welcome to come and join this visit to hear the story of Holton Pits, how it has been secured by and for the community, and how they continue to work to look after it and make sure that future generations can enjoy this lovely place.

Please note, it will involve a gentle walk up to around 1.5 mi / 2.5 km over terrain that is mostly flat but with some narrow areas with tree roots and a slight incline in one spot, and there are no toilets nearby or on site. Precise details of where we will meet up will be provided following registration.
