Doc Mabuse and his daughter Olivia are going to play stringed instruments on the O'Connell's Pub patio garden from 7:00pm to 8:42pm on Sunday. This is a pop-up show doing art for the sake of art. There is no cover fee but anyone throwing money in the bucket will be blessed by a murder of crows appearing above you when you most need them!
Expect free improvisation of the highest order. There will be all sorts of references and funk and free grooves that roam all over the place, yet land exactly where it was planned, only there wasn't really a plan, so who knows? It will be a lot of fun if you know and love music of all sorts.
Doc is a seriously advanced musician. He has the proverbial PhD in music from the school of real life. He recently got back from Texas after being invited to play with some of the most accomplished no-name musicians in the world. People that none of you have likely heard of yet everyone that you have heard of has heard of these folks. They are the musicians behind the musicians. They are the engineers that everyone admires listening to, yet nobody knows their names. Without them, nobody sounds any good, and all of the people up front getting screamed at know it. That's the life of the true artist musician. They are too busy mastering their craft to get bogged down with things like fame and fortune.
Olivia went to the school of being raised by Doc Mabuse. She is a very advanced musician by osmosis alone. It's like having a great athlete as a parent. You kinda can't help but to learn something about what they have accomplished, and learn Olivia did. She is a brilliant, independent thinker and has plenty to say. She is a person who has been running hard in music her whole life. She is absolutely unique in her approach and is a willing accomplice to the whole journey. She will accompany her father on this hot, STL evening outside as the sun sets on the Western horizon.
The sunsets from the O'Connell's parking lot are stunning. Very few realize this, yet those who have will never forget it. It's called "The Hill" for a reason, and O'Connell's has about the best view available. Usually, folks only see it as they enter the building for just a moment or two. But for those willing to hang out in front on Sunday evening, you will be in for a visual display as well as an eargasm display. It should be surreal and fun!
