"A Swingin’ Summer: Count Basie Meets Cole Porter!"
The SCC Jazz Band, the "Sound of Swing in the Sandhills" for over 47 years, will continue their summer concert series with "A Swingin’ Summer: Count Basie Meets Cole Porter!" on Monday, July 14, 2025, from 6:30 to 8:00 pm in BPAC's Owens Auditorium, on campus at Sandhills Community College, 3395 Airport Rd., Pinehurst.
Join the Jazz Band for a concert featuring signature Basie favorites, including "April in Paris", "Shiny Stockings", "Blues in Hoss Flat", and "Orange Sherbert" several Cole Porter songs including "Begin the Beguine", "Love for Sale", and "Let’s Do It", and other tunes you are sure to enjoy.
The Band is led by Dr. Larry Arnold, Professor Emeritus at UNC Pembroke and long time Aberdeen resident. Among the talented local musicians are Rev. Dr. Paul Murphy of Southern Pines, Rob Hill, Music Director at Union Pines High School and former director of the Jazz Band, and Chris Dunn, Executive Director of the Arts Council of Moore County.
SCC Jazz Band concerts are free events, open to the public. Tickets are required. Register for your free tickets online at ticketmesandhills.com.
BPAC offers concessions for purchase including wine, beer, soda, and snacks. No outside food or drink is permitted.
