About the event
Commemorating The Battle of The Short Hills, June 26, 1777
Join us for the 248th anniversary of one of the largest battles of the Revolutionary War, The Battle of the Short Hills, whose outcome ended the British occupation of New Jersey. Our wreath-laying ceremony, with thanks to Edison Township for its support, will take place on just one small part of the far-ranging battlefield, in Edison's Oak Tree Pond Historic Park. The broader engagement, fought on June 26, 1777, spread for miles. It began early in the morning on the outskirts of Woodbridge and ended in the heat of the afternoon in the area of North Plainfield and Scotch Plains. It tested the tactical skills of Generals Washington and Stirling, Howe and Cornwallis, and the grit of thousands of British, Hessian and American soldiers. We hope to see you there.
