6-Week In-Person Training Program
In a close-quarters confrontation, distance is a luxury. When the threat is within arm’s reach, knowing how to control space, manage entanglements, and safely access a concealed firearm becomes critical. Grappling for Concealed Carry is a six-week in-person course that introduces students to the practical integration of concealed firearms with close-quarters physical defense.
Designed for responsibly armed citizens of all experience levels—whether you're a concealed carrier, new to grappling, or both this course builds confidence through progressive, hands-on training. Students will explore foundational clinch work, positional control, escapes, takedowns, and weapon access from both dominant and disadvantageous positions. Emphasis is placed on timing, decision-making, and safety.
Each session blends proven grappling fundamentals with real-world firearms application helping you stay in the fight, gain control, and make smart decisions when it matters most. No prior experience required. Come ready to train in comfortable clothes; all training weapons and gear will be provided (or bring your own).
Session Breakdown
Session 1: Establishing a Clinch & Accessing the Gun
Description:
This session introduces the core concept of the clinch, one of the safest places to be when someone is too close to draw on or disengage from. You’ll learn how to control space, reduce incoming strikes, and create the conditions necessary for safely accessing a concealed firearm under pressure.
Key Objectives:
🤜 Understand when and why to clinch in a self-defense scenario
🤜 Learn safe entries into the clinch from standing positions
🤜 Practice positional control to stabilize the encounter
🤜 Begin exploring access points for drawing a concealed firearm from the clinch
Session 2: Establishing a Clinch & Basic Takedowns
Description:
Once the clinch is established, the next step is gaining positional dominance. This session focuses on simple, high-percentage takedowns that can put you in control without relying on size or strength. You’ll also revisit weapon access opportunities as the fight transitions from standing to the ground.
Key Objectives:
🤜 Learn basic off-balancing, trips, and body lock takedowns
🤜 Use structure and leverage over athleticism
🤜 Recognize safe vs. dangerous positions during takedowns
🤜 Integrate drawing opportunities during the takedown phase
Session 3: Top Controls & Accessing the Gun
Description:
From a dominant top position, you’ll learn how to stabilize the fight and assess when and how to draw your firearm safely. Students will explore control strategies that prevent escapes or counterattacks while creating options for disengagement or escalation.
Key Objectives:
🤜 Achieve and maintain dominant top positions
🤜 Deny opponent’s ability to access weapons or reverse position
🤜 Explore multiple draw options from various top positions
🤜 Discuss legal and tactical considerations before drawing
Session 4: Top Breaks & Chokes
Description:
Controlling the opponent isn’t always enough; you may need to apply force to stop them. This session introduces submission-based options (chokes and joint breaks) from top positions to end a threat when weapon access is unsafe or tactically unsound.
Key Objectives:
🤜 Apply pressure-based submissions with control and intent
🤜 Use chokes to end resistance or set up safer draw angles
🤜 Learn when to choose physical control vs. weapon deployment
🤜 Practice restraint and control with legal/ethical framing
Session 5: Bottom Escapes & Accessing the Gun
Description:
Being taken down is not the end of the fight. This session focuses on how to escape from bottom positions and safely access your firearm when underneath an attacker. Students will develop strategies to improve position or create space for a draw.
Key Objectives:
🤜 Learn high-percentage escapes and frames from bottom
🤜 Use position and timing to prevent being pinned or dominated
🤜 Safely manage a weapon from compromised positions
🤜 Explore positional timing for defensive drawing
Session 6: Bottom Breaks & Chokes
Description:
When escape isn’t immediately possible, submissions from the bottom can neutralize a threat. This final session teaches finishing techniques from the guard and bottom positions, along with transitions into better control or firearm access.
Key Objectives:
🤜 Learn key submissions from bottom
🤜 Create transitions to top or disengage
🤜 Control or end the threat without necessarily accessing a weapon
🤜 Pressure-test combinations of control, escape, and draw under stress
