Bean Pot Basket
Description: Learn to weave a classic basket shape called bean pot. This basket has many uses to include a perfect storage basket for yarn, wool, etc., and makes an exceptional gift basket.
The bean pot has a round double base made from flat reed (dyed or natural) and twined with round reed. The basket sides are woven with natural flat oval reed using a continuous weave technique. It isfinished by adding metal eyelets to hold the metal handle and the rim is secured using a lashing weave. Unlike a basket with a D handle, the shape of this basket is controlled by adjusting weaving tension.
Basket dimensions: base 7-8 inches, basket height 10-11 inches tall with an opening of approximately 8-inches and an 8-inch-tall metal swing handle.
Costs: $65 including instruction and material fee. Material fee includes all reed (natural and dyed), metal bean pot handle & eyelets, basket pattern and use of instructor tools/supplies.
Skill level: basic basket weaving experience helpful. If you have never woven a basket, you can still complete the bean pot. It will just take a bit of patience. As you will be working with sharp scissors, students ages of 14+ are best. Good hand strength is needed as we will be pulling and holding with a tight grip throughout the basket weaving process. You will be working with water so wear something comfortable that you won’t mind getting a little damp.
