Blue Lakes is an iconic trail that's based just outside of Hazelton, BC. This hike travels through lush forests, creeks, rocky sections, and an absolutely stunning view of the surrounding mountains that highlight those breathtaking blue lakes.
This hike is rated a moderate hike, 10km round trip - however expect to tack on anywhere from 4-8km extra due to them working on the road to the trail head. This trail averages in time for 4 hours but again expect a bit longer due to that extra km in the beginning.
If you decide to bring kids, please ensure they are prepared for a longer hike and are capable of hiking the distance. Please make sure they have extra clothes, jacket, hat, proper footwear, snacks/lunch, and a water bottle. When packing snacks/lunch for the kids (and even yourself) focus on ensuring you pack healthy, energy, filling food. This helps with energy and gaining calories/proper nutrients you will be sweating off when hiking.
What to prepare for and bring

-Water Bottle
-Snacks/lunch
-Hiking poles if you have them
-proper footwear

Things to consider bringing (or looking into to bring on future hikes)
-in reach > this device is perfect for any outdoor adventure. Many times cellphones are useless in the backcountry with no service and a depletion of battery. These hand held devices are a life saver to many in the woods.
These can be found at Local Supply company (Garmin), Aquabatics Smithers (Zoleo), Mcbike (possibly Garmin), BV Outdoor Essentials (Garmin, Zoleo, Spot Xtm), Canadian Tire (Garmin).
-bear spray > this can be found at Local Supply Company, BV Outdoor Essentials, and Canadian Tire
-hiking first aid kit >this does not need to be fancy and a level 3 first aid kit. However having something that help with any possible scrapes/burns/splints/breaks/aches and pains.... its worth every cent, and better to be safe rather then sorry
Found at Local Supply Company, BV Outdoor Essentials, and Canadian Tire
Shops can be located in Smithers, BC.
-Trip Planning > This ensures the safety of yourself and those looking for you in a worse case scenario
This Hike supports Leave No Trace and ensures that the mindset is also within the participates of the group. Pack in what you pack out. Be mindful of the trail and staying on it as well as leaving wildlife alone.
If you are car pooling with people please be considerate towards the driver and give them a few extra $$ to cover for gas.
