SSAAM Juneteenth 2025: Stories of Freedom

Join Us for a Day of Culture, Creativity, and Community
Celebrate African American heritage at the National Historic Register-listed Mt. Zion AME Church and the historic Reasoner/True House in Skillman, NJ.

This vibrant, family-friendly event will feature live music, spoken word, theatrical performances, interactive drum circles, local artisans, storytelling workshops, and hands-on museum activities for all ages. Enjoy delicious food while engaging with the rich history of the Sourland region.

• Spoken Word Performances

• Luna Stage’s The Ground On Which We Stand

• Story Booth to record community reflections
• Local artisan marketplace
• Launch of SSAAM’s Little Free Library of Banned Books

The Head that Wears the Crown
Explore the beauty, history, and symbolism of African American women’s headwear, featuring pieces from SSAAM’s collection and striking portraits of community members in vintage church hats.

Guided tours of Mt. Zion AME Church and SSAAM’s Heritage Garden will also be available throughout the day.
