Part I : Fundamentals : 14.08 -->

Finding, sensing & orienting one's center (of influence) in a solo - duo research of collaborative-attentive dance ; Expansion & Contraction of the movement as the motoric language of dance interaction ; Weight Sharing (receiving, giving, exchanging) as a fundamental step to partnering ; Peripheral vision + Spherical orientation as an essential tool of opening towards/including the space & inviting lightness into the gradual, consequent movement ; Changing levels (floor, sitting, standing, flying) in an efficient pathway of motion ; Falling & be-friending the floor as the essential partner of the dance-movement.

Part II : Somatic Quality of Movement : 15.08 -->

Discovering "Small Dance" - subtle omni-multi directional movement of fascia in the body, as a first step to sensing the quiet language of the body & deepening the understanding of gradual-incremental movement as a supportive piece to understanding how to connect to traveling motion in the space & between the bodies ; Depth of Touch : skin-muscle-bone influence of touch ; Versatile qualities of touch : 'looking through/past the body' as an invitation to direct the dance, affecting the entire structure of your partner vs addressing a specific correlating area of the body: shoulder-hip, head-tailbone etc ; Touching before the physical meeting, sensing the arcs & directions of influence as an extension of invisible exchange between centers and body-structures ; Impression of the dance: Under-Over Dancer roles & mutual interchangeable play of preferences, comforts & discomforts related to one's phycology & mindset.

Part III : W S "Through the Edges" : 16.08 -->

"The thrill of surrender, the fear of falling, the buzz of bodies teetering on shared thresholds of balance, force, and agency. This sense of physical risk can be exhilarating. Neuroscience tells us that high stakes movement activates neural circuits associated with both fear and pleasure. The same neurochemical combination that fires during skydiving or extreme
sports—adrenaline, dopamine, endorphins—also emerges in CI, albeit in the nuanced frame of human contact, the dancer becomes attracted to “safe danger”—a situation where the threat is simulated, yet bodily and emotionally real."

What is Contact Improvisation :
Contact Improvisation (CI) is a postmodern dance practice that explores movement through shared weight, touch, and physical awareness.
Originating in the United States in 1972, contact improvisation was developed by dancer and choreographer Steve Paxton, drawing on influences from modern dance, aikido, and somatic practices.
Contact Improvisation emphasizes the interplay of gravity, momentum, and improvisation, fostering an experimental approach to movement that invites both professional dancers and newcomers into its global community.
With time the technique and practice of this movement form spread across Europe, Asia & Americas, growing into an international community of practitioners.
CI is a dynamic and expressive dance form that transcends traditional boundaries, inviting participants into a unique exploration of movement, connection, and self-discovery.
Notable dancers and founders:
Steve Paxton, Nancy Stark Smith, Lisa Nelson.

"Contact improvisation is a spontaneous physical dialogue that ranges from stillness to highly energetic exchanges. Alertness is developed in order to work in an energetic state of physical disorientation, trusting in one's basic survival instincts. It is a free play with balance, self-correcting the wrong moves and reinforcing the right ones, bringing forth a physical/emotional truth about a shared moment of movement that leaves the participants informed, centered, and enlivened."
