Celebrate the warmth of solstice by cooling down with some common medicinal greens- nettles, mustard greens and dandelion leaf! Using the practices of the honorable harvest, participants will forage for and process these leafy greens into a delicious nutrient dense pesto to share and enjoy. Bring a small tupperware and take some home!
Sarah McLellan (she/her)is a local early childhood educator drawn to learning in and with natural, wild spaces. She believes in developing more authentic relationships with the plants and animals around her and has honed her plant based learning with the mentorship of Spoonful Herbals. She infuses her teaching with opportunities for children to develop their own relationships with the natural world through joyful, play-based outdoor exploration.
Spoonful Herbals is the collaborative effort of community herbalists and educators Katherine Elmer and Kara Buchanan. Spoonful offers an annual Herbal CSA, which includes an herbal self-care package distributed at the end of the growing season: each providing 10-15 varied formulas, with detailed educational guidance about the plant ingredients and their uses. Spoonful also teaches an online Winter Community Course in Therapeutic Herbalism, and facilitates a 6-month Community Herbalism Apprenticeship program where students learn how to identify, harvest, and create remedies from wild harvested and locally-grown medicinal herbs. Spoonful’s Herb Mob program engages volunteers to bring locally harvested (gleaned) medicinal plants into our community from local organic farms and green spaces such as Shelburne Farms. www.spoonfulherbals.org
