ANNUAL DIRECTION FINDING (DF) COMPETITION

Find the hidden transmitter!

We will be using the moorland between the Round House at Ringinglow and the area either side of the wide track to Fox House. There is ample parking at the start of this track. ... see map. From Sheffield drive up Ringinglow Road until you get to the Norfolk Arms pub on the right. Turn left along Sheephill Road at the Round House opposite the pub. After a couple of hundred metres fork right up a wide track that eventually goes across Houndkirk Moor. Park your car approx 100 metres up this track.

You will need a 70cm hand held and a suitable directional antenna such as a simple 2 el yagi or receiving loop. It is possible to use a handheld transceiver with a rubber duck antenna by using your body as a shield and, by holding the hand held close to your chest rotate yourself to get a null in the received signal. The hidden transmitter will be along the line of the null. You'll need to do this several times from several different locations to establish a point where the lines approximately intersect. This method is called triangulation and is best done with a map and compass.

There are TWO hidden Transmitters, Fox1 and Fox2.

Their frequencies are:
Fox1. 433.780MHz. Fox2. 433.920MHz.
Both FM with tone modulated Morse i.d.

The hunt starts at 7.0pm BST and we all end up in the nearby Norfolk Arms, Ringinglow, at around 9pm where the certificates will be given out
