Planning Your Fall/Winter Garden - Digging Deeper Saturday Series

Have you always wanted to plant a fall or winter garden, but weren’t quite sure how to go about it? Or maybe you’ve never considered it, but are now intrigued?

Learn tips on planning, planting, growing, and harvesting fall and winter vegetables with Clallam County Master Gardener, Pam Pace.

The temperate climate of the North Olympic Peninsula is perfect for year-long vegetable gardening, but very little “gardening” happens in the fall and winter. Winter gardening is actually easier than main season gardening, with no need to water and very few pest and W**d problems. Benefits also include a readily available supply of healthy and fresh tasting produce, and with no need to preserve, the garden itself becomes storage. Very few things can compare to the sweetness of frost-kissed carrots, leeks, and brussels sprouts!

Pam will discuss the difference between fall/winter harvest crops and spring/overwintering crops, and the advantages of growing both. She will also cover the importance of timing when planting, as well as the benefits of succession planting. Year-round gardening and harvesting has become a personal goal for Pam, and something she is very passionate about. She has conducted extensive research on fall/winter gardening practices, along with trial-and-error experimentation, and is looking forward to sharing her experiences.
