Red Dirt Spring Concert Series: Traveler, with opener Lyra

The spring Red Dirt Concert Series will be held every Friday in May from 5:00 - 8:00 pm. Bring a blanket, chair, non-alcoholic beverages, and a picnic dinner to fully enjoy the free show at the beautiful Posse Grounds Pavilion, located at 505 Posse Ground Road. Traveler features the captivating sound of violin, oud, Middle Eastern percussion along with ethnic instruments collected during Scott Jeffers’ journeys around the globe dominate the concerts. The compositions range from fiery, playful songs to tragic heart-wrenching ballads, inspired while traveling on the treks across the harsh deserts of Jordan and Egypt and across the contrasting landscape of the Emerald Isle, on the sand dunes of Morocco, at the coast of the Mediterranean Sea, in birdsong-filled forests of Transylvania, in the rain forests of Malaysia, and touring the ancient amphitheaters in Turkey. The real magic of a Traveler concert is in the connection the band makes with the audience. The band has been a favorite headlining act at festivals throughout Canada, the US and Turkey.

Lyra was founded in 1987 by violinist Allen Ames and Maryanne Kremer-Ames. LYRA uses classical and electric instruments to create a lively concert format with many styles of instruments to create a lively concert format with many styles of music. The six string Violira, created and built by Allen, gives Lyra a musical range far beyond the standard violin and guitar repertoire. They have performed hundreds of concerts throughout Arizona and other parts of the US, in addition to having been on the roster for the AZ commission on the Arts. Since 1989 Lyra has been performing artists in residence at the Briar Patch Inn, in Sedona.
