Frequently Asked Questions

What is included in my $350 crafting fee?
Think of the crafting fee as an onboard excursion culminating in a completed photo-ready album of your trip. You will receive 10 Alaska-themed 2-page 12x12 page kits at the beginning of your cruise to complete at your leisure. You can crop as much or as little as you like during the trip in our own private meeting space. A tote bag will be provided to you onboard for easy mobility of your scrapbook supplies and tools. You are also invited to attend 2 scrapbooking classes, where you will complete 6 additional 2-page layouts. And because scrapbooking is not complete without creative challenges, goodies, and surprises, there will be plenty of those throughout the week as well!

Can you tell me about the two classes I’ll be taking?
Classes are great for learning tips and tricks as well as just getting a creativity kickstart. You will complete six 2-page Alaska-themed layouts in the classes and leave with loads of ideas for more designs.
Class #1: The Elephant (or whale) in the Room: Of course your photos are the highlight of every scrapbook layout, but every now and then, it’s fun to spice up a design with a large element. In this class, we will be using large decals to draw the eye across the page and give your layout a little (or big!) something extra.
Class #2: Be There or Be Square (or circle): Opposites attract on these versatile layouts when squares and circles come together to create striking visuals. The shape differences really add an interesting look to the pages, which will bring an extra edge to your photos.

Who is my class teacher and scrapbook host for the cruise?
Cammie Kramer finds joy in scrapbooking, which is why she’s been passionate about and committed to the hobby for thirty years. As a scrapbook store owner, Cammie taught weekly classes and hosted monthly crops before closing the door on retail and moving to an online space. Since then, she’s taught classes at the local level or via various conventions in Kentucky, Ohio, Missouri, and Pennsylvania. She currently attends several crops as a page-kit vendor near her hometown of Louisville, Kentucky and manages her Etsy shop, Sugar&SpiceKits, found at www.sugarandspicescrapbooks.com where shoppers can find more than 250 page kit designs. You can reach Cammie by email at c3VnYXJhbmRzcGljZXNjcmFwYm9va3MgfCBob3RtYWlsICEgY29t or you can also contact her by sending a message through her Etsy shop.

Sounds great, but how will I pack all my stuff?
The short answer is, you won’t. The items you will need to bring include scissors, a paper trimmer, your favorite adhesives, and either a hard shell container or soft sleeve with two pieces of cardboard to protect your pages. You will be working with page kits, meaning everything you need to complete the layout is already included. All kits are Alaska-themed, so your layouts will be photo-ready when you get home and are ready to scrapbook your trip. I do recommend, however, that you wait to cut and adhere your mats until you have your trip photos printed and in front of you. That way, you can adjust the orientation or number of photos to what you have, making the kit work for you rather than the other way around.

I love cropping, but will I still be able to spend time on other activities, excursions, and relaxation?
Absolutely! Alaska is an amazing destination and you’ll certainly want to spend port days exploring the different cities as well as take advantage of wildlife and glacier viewing opportunities during scenic viewing days. Additionally, the ship has so many activities, restaurants, and other amenities to enjoy. (The thermal suite is AH-MAZING!) You will want to attend the two classes I’ll be teaching while the ship is at sea, but other than that, you can choose how much time you’d like to spend cropping. The 10 page kits you receive at the beginning of the cruise are yours to complete at your own pace and convenience, as each includes directions and a color picture of the completed design.

How much space will I have for cropping?
Croppers are provided with their own 32x32 in. table to crop.

Can I crop any time I want?
Yes! Our group will have use of a designated meeting room for the duration of the trip.

Will I need a passport?
A passport is highly recommended, though not required for U.S. citizens since this is a closed loop sailing (departing from and returning to Seattle, Washington.) If you will be traveling without a passport, you will need to ensure you have the proper documentation before boarding. Visit Holland America’s Know Before You Go page for more information.

How will I get my new scrapbook pages home?
Packing your completed layouts in a hard container or bookending them with cardboard should offer sufficient protection to include them in your checked luggage. That said, you will be leaving with far more than you came with (which includes the scrapbook items as well as other shopping and souvenirs). Your new scrapbook pages will add approximately 7.5 pounds to your luggage. Thus, if the airline weight limit is making you anxious, I recommend the Lubardy travel backpack (Amazon $29.86) for packing and carrying your items with you on the flight.

How do I register?
Book your cruise directly through Holland America by contacting our group's Personal Cruise Consultant, Peter McClung by calling 1-800-355-3017 ext. 29164 Monday - Friday 9:30 am-6:00 pm Pacific Time. Tell Peter you are booking with the Sugar & Spice Scrapbooks group, Booking Code TN6. You can also email him at cG1jY2x1bmcgfCBob2xsYW5kYW1lcmljYSAhIGNvbQ== with additional questions about the cruise. You must book direct through Holland America with Peter to participate with the Sugar & Spice Scrapbooks group. Those booking with a private travel agent or site are not eligible to participate in the crafting event.
Once you have booked your cabin with Peter, email Cammie at c3VnYXJhbmRzcGljZXNjcmFwYm9va3MgfCBob3RtYWlsICEgY29t to let her know which passengers in your cabin will be crafting. The $350 crafting fee is separate from your cruise cost and is paid directly to Sugar & Spice Scrapbooks. Non-crafting cabin mates are not billed this fee. The fee is due 90 days prior to the departure date and can be invoiced through PayPal. If you need to cancel your trip for any reason within 90 days of the sailing, you are eligible to receive a $300 refund on your crafting fee or you may opt to receive your 10 page kits, 6 class kits, and additional goodies via mail.
