WHAT IS THIS EVENT? It's an ice sculpture, to interact with the incoming tide, at Golden Gardens on Sunday June 29th. The experience will be filmed as part of a video produced by Jeff Leisawitz in a City of Seattle arts grant.
I'm installing a steel sculpture in the tidal zone at the south end of the park, near the parking lot. Then we're going to balance a huge block of ice on top of this sculpture. And then we're going to have a picnic and barbecue, watch the tide come in and interact with the sculpture and the ice block. I don't actually know what will happen. Maybe a wave will come take it away - maybe it will melt in position - we'll just have to wait and see.
3 pm - I need help for a brief period of time around 3 pm from 6 strong people. - But the whole experience will be very cool! Because - it's an experiment. As well as a picnic, barbecue and hang out!
The installation and whatever happens as the tide comes in will become part of a video that will be presented in November. Jeff Leisawitz, a musician and filmographer, received a City arts grant, and we're collaborating on this part of it.
Starting at 2 pm, which happens to be low tide on the 29th, we'll carry the sculpture and ice block out to the spot in the tidal zone. The balancing of the block will take some doing, but it's something I've done many times and I have well in hand.
After that, we'll have a picnic and fire, hang out with good friends, and spend the afternoon watching the tide come in - and see what happens! I will have a barbecue on hand for grilling, and a cooler. Totally fun, relaxing, and making a video at the same time!
