EDIT: date change to June 29th.
WHAT IS THIS EVENT? It's an ice sculpture, to interact with the incoming tide, at Golden Gardens on Sunday June 29th. The experience will become a produced video by Jeff Leisawitz as part of a City of Seattle arts grant.
I'm installing a steel sculpture in the tidal zone at the north end of the park. Then we're going to balance a huge block of ice on top of this sculpture. And then we're going to watch the tide come in, to interact with the sculpture and the ice block. I don't actually know what will happen. Maybe a wave will come take it away - maybe it will melt in position - we don't really know!
I need help for a brief period of time around 2 pm from at least 6 strong people. - But the whole experience will be very cool! Because - it's an experiment. As well as a picnic, barbecue and hang out!
In any case, all of this experience will be videoed for a grant that local musician and soundscape artist Jeff Leisawitz received.
Starting at 2 pm, which happens to be low tide on the 29th, we'll carry the sculpture and ice block out to the spot in the tidal zone. The balancing of the block will take some doing, but it's something I've done many times and I have well in hand.
After that, we'll have a picnic and fire, hang out with good friends, and spend the afternoon watching the tide come in - and see what happens! I will have a barbecue on hand for grilling, and a cooler. Totally fun, relaxing, and making a video at the same time!
