Welcome to the Debut Concert of In This Moment

Come join us at the Spring Street Gallery for an unforgettable night of music. You are invited to join us for the debut performance of an exciting new trio consisting of jazz artists Shiri Zorn, Mark Kleinhaut and Ed Green. In This Moment creates music that is natural, effortless, and willing to ride the freely flowing currents of spontaneity.

In fact, all of the music to be performed will be created in the moment, without set arrangements, roadmaps or conventional song forms. Pulling from a deep well of musical talent: Shiri's luminous crystalline vocals, Mark's rich orchestral fretwork and Ed's warmly poetic cello, these three brilliant performers have discovered a unique musical palette, and compositional mindset to craft soundscapes and storylines tapping the far reaches of their collective musical styles. The result is familiarly exotic, alluringly peaceful and comfortably challenging.

Wednesday, June 25 will be a special opportunity for the trio to share their artistic journey for the first time with a live audience- anything can happen and you will surely want to be there!

Artist Bios:

Shiri Zorn is an innovative jazz vocalist whose fresh and intercultural sound reinvents the standard jazz repertoire as we know it. She layers American Songbook tunes with Middle Eastern influences and unexpected time signatures. She reharmonizes Latin and Samba classics to evoke feelings of transcendence, temporarily rendering the listener lost to time and space. Zorn’s critically acclaimed debut album, Into Another Land, was produced by Grammy-nominated jazz vocalist Tierney Sutton. Zorn performs in Saratoga Springs, New York, and is currently promoting her second album Looking for the Light released in 2025.

Mark Kleinhaut is a guitarist who focused this past decade almost entirely on improvised compositional performance in small group and solo formats. He employs a clear acoustic natural guitar sound to develop an array of textures and tones, from woody richness to bell-like harmonics, using the full range of his fretboard to achieve orchestral qualities of melody, counterpoint and non-traditional harmonies. Perhaps above all, it is his use of space and sense of timing which evokes a sense of travels and stories created during one of his performances; the music is allowed to freely flow and evolve as it occurs. Drawing from a deep background in jazz and tapping into the language of other musical forms, Kleinhaut's journey is one of ever-changing discovery of the beauty and joy in sound. His music is contemplative and curious, excitedly pursuing what lies around the next musical corner.

Ed Green began his musical career as a trombonist in New York City. During this time, he could be heard in big bands, the pits of Broadway theaters and as a regular member of the Kai Winding Septet. Before moving upstate, Ed began doubling on string bass. During the seventies and eighties, he was a busy bass player in the Capital Region performing with Lee Shaw among others. Ed has performed and/or recorded with jazz artists: Nancy Wilson, June Christy, Sheila Jordan, Carmen McRea and Charlie Byrd, and pop artists: The Temptations, The Four Tops, Tom Jones and Paul Anka. For the past twenty years, Ed has been playing the cello.
