Award-winning Sephardi songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Lily Henley is bringing a new concert of original and rewoven songs in the Ladino language to McCabe’s Guitar Shop in Santa Monica on May 23rd — music which bridges Sephardic balladry with American folk traditions. This is a rare opportunity to hear new Sephardi music rooted in tradition and living cultural memory!
Lily’s Sephardi Americana blends voice, guitars, fiddles, plucked strings, and culturally-grounded storytelling, featuring songs written in a critically endangered Jewish language, as well as English, and shaped by the work of today’s Ladino speakers. Her performances carry this legacy forward with reverence, joy, and brilliant musicianship.
She’ll be joined by Duncan Wickel, a multi-instrumental phenom whose collaborators include Molly Tuttle, Rising Appalachia, and John Doyle. Duncan has performed on The Late Show as part of Jon Batiste and Stay Human, and brings extraordinary range and sensitivity to this deeply collaborative show.
The concert marks the final stop on a California tour with performances in San Francisco, Berkeley, Sacramento, Santa Cruz, San Luis Obispo, San Diego, and Carlsbad.
