Sandwich Bay Bird Observatory Trust is once again supporting the annual Kent Ornithological Society's 'Migration Day' on Sunday 28th September, an initiative to record migrating birds throughout the County which celebrates the incredible journeys that migratory birds undertake, recognising the challenges they face and sharing stories of some of the inspirational conservation work that is going into protecting them.
You are invited to join us for a packed program of 🆓FREE:
✅Guided walks around our reserve and recording areas looking for migratory birds. All abilities welcome & there will be two shorter guided walks for children and families
✅Bird Ringing Demonstrations (weather permitting) Watch as licenced ringers place a lightweight, uniquely numbered ring around bird’s leg, providing a reliable and harmless method to identify birds as individuals. Find out why this is such important work and get to see some of our migratory birds close up!
✅Migration talks - Migratory birds are a great illustration of global interconnectedness. Learn from expert Birder, Ringer and former tour guide, John Buckingham, about Sandwich Bay's migratory birds and the data we have gathered around their migration patterns.
✅Throughout the day our brilliant volunteers will be serving lots of tasty refreshments and food!
Our first walk starts at 9am and we will finish at 4pm. More information on our programme of events for the day can be found here:

Last year’s event saw us record well over 100 bird species including a few rarities! The end of September is often a peak time for migration, and we hope to witness some interesting birds.
