Nichol Joy Chase is a teacher, musician, and yogi for whom singing and movement is integral to life. She is a faculty member and teacher trainer for The Mazé Method Yoga School, Nest Yoga School, Love Story Yoga, and Hot Spot Yoga. Nichol is a Garrison Institute Fellow alum, and developed a new trauma-sensitive yoga program for her capstone project. This program heavily emphasizes the importance of proper alignment and knowledge of functional anatomy, and trains students to teach asana, pranayama, meditation and Kirtan with a trauma sensitive lens. Nichol’s artistic experience includes more than a decade of Royal Academy ballet training and specialization as an operatic Coloratura Soprano, earning the Bachelor of Music degree with a major in Vocal Performance from the University of the Pacific Conservatory of Music. Nichol’s study of yoga piqued an interest in bhajan and kirtan from the Indian musical tradition, resulting in the addition of the harmonium to her repertoire for accompaniment. She continues to study mantra, bhajan and kirtan along with a vast array of Western musical styles.

David Mills Chase is a higher education professional and musician who specializes in arts education and is currently the Vice President for Educational Programs at the WASC Senior College & University Commission. He served as the first Vice Dean, Academic Affairs of the American Film Institute Conservatory in Los Angeles, California, and in a number of roles at University of the Pacific including Senior Associate Director of Institutional Effectiveness in the Office of the Provost, and Assistant Dean of Pacific’s Conservatory of Music where he taught courses in the Music Management program, the core seminars of Pacific’s General Education program, and was Academic Advisor to the Brubeck Institute. He earned Bachelor of Music and Master of Arts in Music degrees from Pacific’s Conservatory and the Doctor of Education degree from Pacific’s Benerd College. David has published and presented extensively on learning and teaching in higher education arts disciplines and educational effectiveness in higher education and co-authored Assessment in Creative Disciplines: Quantifying and Qualifying the Aesthetic. David is also a Fellow in the second cohort of the Garrison Institute Fellowship Program, a contemplative-based leadership training program grounded in awareness-based contemplative wisdom, the science of interconnection, generative action, and collective healing.
