In a historic moment for San Diego basketball, four collegiate teams—San Diego State University (SDSU) and UC San Diego (UCSD) men's and women's basketball—secured spots in the 2025 NCAA Tournament, marking a first for the city.
UCSD's ascent was particularly remarkable, as both teams qualified in their inaugural year of Division I postseason eligibility. SDSU men's team made their fifth consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance, sixth in eight seasons under head coach Brian Dutcher. SDSU's women's team ended a 13-year NCAA Tournament drought by winning the Mountain West Championship in a thrilling triple-overtime victory over Wyoming, securing a No. 14 seed and a first-round matchup against LSU .
This unprecedented achievement of all four teams reaching March Madness underscores San Diego's growing prominence in college basketball and reflects the dedication and resilience of these programs.
