Last spring was a doozy. Some of you already know the story—my dad passed away the same night I graduated from college. It was the night before Mother’s Day, and everything flipped upside down at once.
We held a local celebration that week here in Colorado, and it meant a lot—but we knew there were so many of you who couldn’t make it on short notice. Friends from Buffalo. From tour. From the river. From the mountains. From way, way back—crib days and high school days and every era in between.
So this summer, we’re doing it right and bringing back Burnstock!
August 14–18 at our home on the Arkansas River in Salida, CO
Next door to Independent Whitewater & The Drift-In Bar & Grill
Some of you might remember Burnstock ‘99. I found the old flyer on the wall and couldn’t help but smile—so I enlisted my mom to recreate it. You’ll see it attached here or at the top of this event.
We’re opening up the land for a weekend of music, river time, stories, camping, and connection. No big schedule. No pressure. Just an open invite to gather in honor of my dad—Brian Burns—with the people who really knew him.
That same weekend, our longtime friends are hosting Twin Fest right next door at the Drift-In, with 17 bands playing from Friday night through Sunday afternoon. These are folks who’ve been jamming together for decades—some of them knew my dad for just as long.
We're not officially combining the events, but it’s all love. We’ll be giving out Twin Fest tickets to anyone coming from out of town, and we expect a lot of crossover — during the music and around the fire.

Then on Sunday night (Aug 17), we’ll close things out with a more intimate Celebration of Life at the house—for travelers, musicians, and close friends who came to honor him. If you have an instrument, please bring it—we’ll be joining some leftover band members from the weekend festivities for a good old-fashioned jam session.

For those of you who can’t make it that exact weekend, you’re still welcome here. I’d be honored to host anyone this summer who wants to come spend some time on the land, fish the river, and share a few stories about my dad.
He was born April 25, 1968, and in 56 years he made more friends than most people do in two lifetimes. Music, the Dead, skiing, fishing, laughing too loud, hugging too long—that was him.
I’m proud to carry his name. And we’d love for you to come celebrate his life in the place he loved most.
