Lake Phalen Open Water Swim #1 of 20!

Enjoy open water swimming this summer in Saint Paul’s Lake Phalen. The swim course is marked with buoys and staffed by waterfront certified lifeguards. Swimming in open water offers increased physical, mental, and social health benefits. You can experience calming waters and nature in the city, swim in community, and have the safety of a lifeguarded course.

The short course begins from the beach, you swim counterclockwise around the course buoys, and return to the beach. One loop around the course is approximately 500 yards.

New in 2025: the long course option from Beach to Lakeside Activity Center (approximately 700 yards one-way way, 1200 yards as a loop).

Pass holders are issued and required to wear an official participant swim cap (included in registration fee). Swimmers must wear a swim buoy or a Coast Guard approved personal flotation device. One swim bouy will be issued to swimmers without their own swim buoy or PFD.
