Vikendica x WORM: Atol Atol Atol (PL) + Alienbaby Collective (NL), Avemaria (EE) & K not K (formerly Karpov not Kasparov (RO) >>
https://worm.org/production/vikendica-2025/
Vikendica is a travelling festival-weekender for adventurous new music, connecting four iconic venues in The Netherlands. Resistor (Leiden), VERA (Groningen), WORM (Rotterdam) and OCCii (Amsterdam) join hands in showcasing a convoi exceptionnel of acts from Europe’s most vibrant underground scenes.
Named after a colloquial Western Balkans term for a weekend home, Vikendica simultaneously highlights the identity and ambience of independent clubs. After a successful 2024 edition, the nomadic event returns to WORM. Vikendica is an initiative by platform Yugofuturism.
Line Up:
Atol Atol Atol (PL) are a fourpiece from the Polish city of Wrocław – a city that boasts a long history of underground and subversive artforms. They play a heady mix of no wave/post-punk/pre-punk. Fans of Cardiacs, ESG, and The Soft Boys should check them out. The band features members of Ukryte Zalety Systemu (UZS), Przepych and Kurws, who played at WORM in 2022. "Perhaps digging the more groove orientated end of No Wave like ESG they embrace the death disco and there is a minimalist funk to their post punk psychodramas." (John Robb, Louder than War.) Alienbaby Collective (NL) is an experimental noise solo act. The act is the brainchild (maybe alter ego!?) of Liú Mottes, once of Amsterdam, now resident in Berlin, whose work has according to Rewire Festival, "brought stardust to the likes of Dutch alternative pop acts like Blue Crime and New YX." A friend of WORM and a stalwart of the Dutch underground over the past decade, Mottes is a terrifically exciting guitar player – she navigates a path between songs and adventurous improvisations using textures and short loops. Her new album is out in September. Listen on Bandcamp:

Avemaria (EE) are a fourpiece band who make funny, skanky, quizzical and punky guitar pop from the Estonian backwoods. Which is quite a change from the slick Tallinn-based image of the country many will be used to. They say they are influenced by Siberian punk, fairytales, "the worst day of your life" and 2010s indie. Relevant keywords: radio, roadside ditches, toolshed, stained glass windows, wool socks, undergrowth, love, and battery acid. Instagram:

K not K (RO). Romanian futurist duo K not K (formally Karpov not Kasparov) makes music based on the rules and strategies of chess. It might seem complicated but the output is always danceable. There are classical allusions and Oriental flavours (chess is an Oriental game after all) and always a dance floor bass-driven sound, live often joined by balletdancers or theatrical performance.
